In a major expansion, Google’s AI-powered conversational search, known as the Search Generative Experience (SGE), is now available in more than 120 new countries and territories globally. The SGE, which offers a natural language-based conversational experience, was initially launched in select markets such as the U.S., India, and Japan. Alongside the global rollout, SGE adds support for four new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian.
Conversational AI Evolution
Introduced earlier this year, SGE presents a paradigm shift in search experiences, enabling users to interact with AI using natural language, receiving comprehensive and well-formed answers instead of traditional lists of links. Comparable to Bing Chat, Google’s SGE is designed to enhance the search experience with more human-like interactions.

Key Enhancements and Features
As part of the global expansion, SGE will undergo several improvements. In the U.S., users will gain the ability to ask follow-up questions directly on the search results page, creating a seamless exploration of topics. This feature will be introduced in English in the U.S. in the coming weeks.
Another enhancement involves the translation feature. Users can now tap on words with multiple meanings during translations and choose the one that aligns with their intended message. Initially available for English-to-Spanish translations in the U.S., this feature will expand to more countries in the future.
Additionally, SGE’s definition feature, which allows users to seek definitions of unfamiliar words in AI-powered overviews, will broaden its scope. Beyond science, economics, and history, users can now ask for definitions in areas like coding and health information. The feature will be available in English in the U.S. initially, with more countries following in the next month.
Global Accessibility
The expanded availability of SGE covers a vast range of countries and territories, providing users around the world with access to this generative AI-driven search experience. The move represents Google’s commitment to making AI-driven search accessible to a global audience.
Hema Budaraju, Google’s Senior Director of Product Management for Search, expressed excitement about the progress and looks forward to expanding generative AI in Search to even more countries in the future.
